Special Events in June

Great News Everyone,

I have two exciting events coming up next month. The first event is something that is every close to my heart, a fundraising event for the New Mexico chapter of the House Rabbit Society. They are holding a silent auction where more than 20 artists have donated artwork in an effort to raise money. As many of you know we have been blessed to have had our house rabbits Edgar and Hazel in our lives for 6 and 7 years. And we look forward to many more with Edgar. They both have been my painting buddies and I loved spending time with them. Edgar is featured as this year's model. Isn't she so cute? This painting is titled, "Usagi Sunrise" and is 8" x 10".

During the week of June 8- 15 all of the artwork will be on display at Giacobbe-Fritz Fine Art in Santa Fe, NM. For more information please visit www.newmexicohrs.org or to bid phone, email, or visit the gallery in person. (art@giacobbefritz, 505-986-1156, bill@rabbit.org, 505-225-5744).

The second great event is a 3 Man Show that I will be part of at Lovetts Gallery in Tulsa, OK. "Hardlines" will be held June 14 -15 and will be featuring my newest series of artwork, "Precious Elements" which is inspired by gemstones and other precious elements.

The Winner is.....

Good & Bad News Everyone,

I'll start with the good news. Last night we held the drawing for the "Help for Hazel" Fundraiser. We want to say thank you again to everyone that has donated and supported us through this. And the moment you have all been waiting for, the winner of an original painting by Tyler Davis (www.42brushes.com). And the winner is......

 Rachel Hopps!
We are so excited for Rachel and 4 lovely bunnies. And once her painting is complete it will be traveling all the way to the United Kingdom. Thanks again for all of the support from around the world!

Now to share the bad news. Many of you may have tried to enter the fundraiser the last week but were not able. We decided to remove the PayPal links early due to the news we received about Hazel.

The beginning of last week we noticed that Hazel was breathing a little funny and we could tell that the tumors on her stomach were causing her pain. When we took her into her surgery appointment on Thursday, we also had Dr. Harris do x-rays. Later that day, I was called to pick Hazel up if we would like to say goodbye to her. The x-rays showed that Hazel had little room in the lungs anymore for oxygen. Almost all of her lung capacity was filled with tumors. At this point there was nothing anyone could do to help her recover. I had Dr. Harris give her a pain medication injection and we brought her home knowing that we would need to say goodbye to her in the next few days.

We spend the night with her and held her as much as we could, but as the hours grew later and later we knew that she was suffering was growing as well. Together we decided the best thing for her was to take her into the vet first thing in the morning. We hoped that she wouldn't have to suffer through the night and would peacefully past away in her sleep; however, our sweet little Hazel was a fighter until the end. I don't think she wanted to leave us anymore than we wanted to let her go.

Friday morning we said goodbye and held her in our arms while she fell asleep for the last time. Saturday we travel up to Idaho and laid her body to rest in my parents yard.

This week has been one of the hardest of my life. Hazel was more than just a pet, she and I spend all day everyday together for the past 6 years. She has been my companion, my friend, my foot warmer, and my muse and my reason to paint. We will greatly miss her and her sweet spirit! She has filled our lives with joy and love.

Thank you again for everyone's support and kind words. We hope that with
time and prayers our sorrow will be filled with the joy of her memories.

Help for Hazel - 2013

 Sad News Everyone,

Today we took Hazel-Ra back into our vet to have a check up. She sadly has several new tumors growing on her belly. Luckily, they haven't been causing her to much pain until the last few weeks. We have been monitoring them for several months and Dr. Harris feels it would be best to remove them surgically. As some of you know she had a similar surgery last year. This time the operation will be more expensive due to several factors, one of which is that Dr. Harris wants to take X-rays of her chest to make sure the tumors haven't spread into her lungs. The estimate for this operation and X-rays is going to cost close to $650.

Other than the tumor Hazel is in excellent health. Since last year's operation she has been very happy and healthy. The last few weeks though, her appetite has shrunk and she's not as active.  Even though last time it was a tough recovery, we believe she will bounce back quickly. To raise money for Hazel's surgery, Tyler (of www.42brushes.com) and I are holding a fundraiser. This time we thought to switch things up, everyone that purchases tickets will have the chance to win an original piece of artwork by Tyler Davis. For every $5 ticket purchased you will be entered into the drawing. The winner will have their choice of Tyler doing a painting on a wooden bowl or on a 11" x 14" panel. The winner will be drawn on Wed. Apr. 24th at Midnight. The painting will be shipped to the winner free of charge within the U.S.

Valued at $525                   Deadline: April 24th 2012 @ 12:00 am
OR

A Painting or Wooden Bowl, you get to choose the subject and the surface!

If you would like to donate to the "Help for Hazel" Fund, but aren't interested in being entered into the drawing please use the "Donation Options" below.

Thank you for all of your help. I can't wait to see who wins the painting!

Please share this with all of your friends!
