For the next month and half Tyler and I will be participating in a Charity/Holiday Show at Cake Hair Salon. The show will be up from now through the end of Jan. 2012. Religious Art Contest

"The Divine Calling" 24" x 12"

Good News Everyone,

I recently entered this painting in a religious art contest. The theme for the show was "Make Known His Good Works". In the entry form, artists were only allowed to write 1400 characters. Below is the short version exampling this painting...

"In this life, we are all given callings in which to further the Work of the Lord. Many are called to serve in the Church; however, we all have the divine calling of holding the Priesthood or Motherhood, which is the most important calling women have in this life.

I wanted to portray motherhood through the example of Mary. She was called to be the earthly mother of the divine Savior. It was important to show Mary at an earlier time in her pregnancy. We know almost nothing of what she felt or thought during those 9 months, but one must think she had the same worries and concerns that new mothers had throughout history. Hers’ must have been intensified, knowing who her child would be.

I have included several symbols to further imply the theme “Make Known His Wonderful Works”.
1. The colors portray the glory of God (Yellow), the purity of Mary and Child (White), and royal nature of the Savior (Blue).
2. The Star of David symbolizes the Savior’s linage and genealogy.
3. The curved rays of stars represent the light of Christ.
4. The ring of stars Mary is sitting upon. Starting from the top middle star, there are 7 stars with rays to represent the Creation. The 3 stars without rays symbolize the Godhead. The last 2 circles represent Heavenly Father and Jesus appearing to Joseph Smith and the Restoration. The circles are blank to show the eternal nature of God and His Son."

Springville Art Museum's Spring Salon

Great News Everybody,

I made it into the 87th Annual Spring Salon at the Springville Art Museum, with my buffalo, "Undisturbed". This is an incredibly difficult show to get into. Over a 1,000 people entered the show and only 253 entries were selected. Most of the people that made it into to show are well know artists, such as; Robert T. Barrett, James C. Christensen, Edward J. Fraughton, Del Parson, Jeffery Pugh, Tim Whitworth, and Bregelle Whitworth Davis, to name a few. I feel incredibly honored to be shown with so many great artists. Good News Everybody,

This weekend I was able to see something I have never seen before, an Ermine. An Ermine is white, with a black tipped-tail and in the summer when they are brown they are called a Weasel. We saw this little guy while we were in Yellowstone National Park this weekend with my parents. The photo below was taken by my dad, Tim Whitworth. And the above photos by me.

Tonight is the big night I have been painting for since June. Tonight, the Rive Gauche Fine Art Galleries is having their Western Art Show, which is a group show. This last weekend Tyler and I drove 9 new paintings down to Scottsdale for this show . The gallery now has a total of 20 paintings, you can see them on the web by clicking here. Great News Everybody,

Next month I will be in Jackson, WY demonstrating my painting technique. I will be at the Rare Gallery Sept. 17- 18 from 12 noon until 9 pm. I will be taking a few breaks for meals, so if I have stepped out I will be right back. Rare Gallery is located off of the historic Jackson Square, at 60 East Broadway.

There will also be two other artist demonstrating at Rare that weekend; along with many other Galleries featuring artists. My dad, Tim Whitworth, will be at the Wilcox II Gallery demoing as well. Come and be a part of the amazing 2010 Jackson Fall Arts Festival. Hope to see you there.

The Finished Grizzly Bear

Great News Everybody!

I finished the 60" x 48" Grizzly Bear last week. I still need to varnish it, but otherwise it is ready for Rive Gauche Art Galleries and the Southwest Art Festival in Scottsdale, AZ. This is the largest painting I have ever done and I am incredibly happy with how it turned out.

Friday I delivered 8 paintings to Rare Galley in Jackson, Wy. This photo is of my three new paintings and the largest I have done yet. This week I am working on even larger pieces for the Southwest Art Festival in Scottsdale, AZ. I was recently invited to be apart of a new Gallery. The Rare Gallery is located in beautiful downtown Jackson, WY. And has been in business for many years now. Many you many not know, but Jackson holds a special place in my heart. I grown-up only an hour and a half away and spend much of my life walking through the galleries there. This little town is what opened my eyes to the work of art, with the help of my parents. I also spend 2 summers working there, just down the street. I also meet the love of my life and greatest fan, my husband, Tyler.

I am extremely excite to be showing at Rare at there brand new location, 60 E. Broadway.

This last weekend we went up to Yellowstone National Park and saw 12 Bears and 4 wolves in a day and a half. The lesson we learned is that you have to wake up early!

Scottsdale Trip

Good News Everybody,

I have finally found a few minutes to write about our trip to Scottsdale, AZ. It was an amazing trip, despite the heat. By the way, it was around 112 degrees while we were there. In the high 90's is hot enough for me.

Besides being a business trip, we also went for a little get away. Along with good food and shopping, we were able to see some of Frank Lloyd Wright's work. We saw the exterior of his home "Taliesin West". Along with this Spire, that he originally design for the Arizona State Capitol. Wright designed it in 1957, but it wasn't built until 2004. The Spire was built in a small garden on the corner of a shopping mall. It was Beautiful.

After our stay in Scottsdale, we decided to drive home by way of Las Vegas. Little did we know that by doing so, we would be driving over the Hoover Dam. This was a breath taking experience (did I mention that I am incredibly afraid of heights). Both Tyler and I have never been and were excited to see it because there isn't much Art Deco Architecture left in the world. Making it an amazing experience to see it on a grand scale. Some day I would love to revisit the Dam and go on a few of the tours. We were unable to attend any because we need to make it back to Salt Lake that night.

We recently took a trip down to Scottsdale, AZ. While we were there I met with several galleries and found an amazing new home for my artwork. I am now showing my paintings at the Rive Gauche Art Galleries. I am extremely excited to be a part of this prestigious gallery. The Rive Gauche Art Gallery was formerly the Meyers Art Gallery which I believe was started in the early 80's. Several years ago the gallery was purchase and renamed. I am honored to be apart of this renowned gallery and can't wait to finish more paintings for them.

Weird and Gross

Weird News Everybody,

You may be wondering why I posted this undramatic photo of my shower head. Well, there is an interesting story behind it, and I will get to that in a little bit.

First, I want to talk about the fun things that happen to you, when you are an artist. (Disclaimer: The picture below is not for the weak of stomach.) The beginning of last week I was working on some mailers I was sending out to a few galleries. In the process of working, I was getting tried and sloppy. It was about 1 am and my husband had fallen asleep on the couch. I was busy working away on printing and cutting down paper. When all of a sudden I looked away from what I was cutting and "OUCH"! I forgot to mention that I was cutting down the paper with a ruler and xacto knife. I jumped up and ran to the bathroom, putting pressure on my index finger. For the first time in my life I started to get faint and thought I was going to black out. I gently work my husband up and he help with the medical proceedings after that. Over the next first hours I tried to woke on my mailers and was able to finish most of them; however, I almost faint three time during the night. I have had surgeries and even stitches in my face and nothing hurt like trying to decapitate your own finger. Needless to say that is the reason why I have been very slow to finish the paintings I am currently working on. And hopefully everyone will over look are any errors. I have had minimum use of my left hand.

Well, enough with this gross story I will move on to the one behind the shower head. As my post mentioned yesterday we went to Yellowstone over the weekend and we were only gone for 3 days; which makes this story more weird. . .

Recently, we have been having a small sugar ant problem in our apartment. We have had quite a few in our kitchen, but that is understandable. Our apartment was built in the 1950's and as such we haven't really had to many problems with it. I have also seen one or two ants in the bathroom, but I never worried about them until now. Last, night I climbed into the shower and turn the tub faucet on the get the water temperature right. After doing so I reached forward and turned the shower head on. In doing so I received a shower not of water of pleasant warm water, but of tiny black sugar ants. I jumped out of the way and first thought it was dirt or something. But no, it wasn't. It was hundreds of ants and upon closer investigation larva. The crazy thing is that this colony all happened within the 3 days we were gone.

Well, there you have it a week in my life. Finger decapitation, Trips to Yellowstone, and home again for a lovely ant shower.

Painting and Traveling

Good News Everybody,

This last week I was able to paint more on my latest Buffalo painting. There is still a ton to do; however, I finally got the dark the right color. I was also able to go through Yellowstone with my parents and my husband. We saw all of the usually things; buffalo, elk, antelope, and of course bears. We saw 1 black bear and 3 grizzly bears.

Paintings in the Making

Good News Everyone,

I have finally been feeling well enough to get back to work. I am currently working on 5 paintings, with a huge list of ideas on top of that. Since I was in bed most of March I was busy working on my website (which you should check out), a new artist inventory program, and logging down ideas.

Here are 3 of the paintings I am working on. The 2 chipmunks are 6" x 6" and the fawn is 10" x 10".

The first dark color I mixed up was to purple and far to dark. I wanted it to be more of a raspberry.

It isn't done yet I still have a few more hours of clean up work. I want to bring some of the blue into the body still.

There is a new addition to our personal art collection. This last week I received a painting from Richard Salcido. He is an amazing artist based out of San Diego, and also shows in the Silver Queen Gallery. The great thing about being an artist is you have the opportunity to trade work with other artists. Richard and I talked about trading with each other last year and he created "Green Eyes" for me. In turn I sent him Kid Robot #1. Richard has amazing work and you should check out his website.

"Since her debut solo show during the 2009 Sundance Film Festival, Bregelle has been very active in the art community. Participating in multiple shows and venues in the Salt Lake Valley, Jackson Hole, and Park City, Bregelle has steadily been adding to her portfolio.

At first glance Bregelle’s work resembles a silkscreen; however, closer investigation reveals a textured surface full of brush strokes defining her subject matter. The main character in each piece may appear to be a squirrel or a bird, but actually the true player is color. Using a limited palette of three colors, Bregelle explores how the colors interact and how they define the subject matter. You may see her as a colorist, but she accurately defines her style as “Neo-Pop”. Inspired by Pop Art and the Neo-Classical Era, Bregelle has redefined Pop Art and made it her own.

Bregelle draws additional inspiration for her work from a wide variety of places: her illustration background, artists like Alphonse Mucha, and her talented husband Tyler Davis are a few sources. Bregelle doesn’t limit her inspiration only to other artists. She also gathers ideas for color combinations from the world around her, including some rather odd places; gum or candy packaging, clothing in a laundry hamper, or even two colors crossing paths in nature, as such a flower in front of a brick house.

Having enjoyed Bregelle’s work at the Silver Queen this past year, we look forward to what she comes up with in 2010. Her fast growing popularity makes her one of my new favorite local artists. Good News Everybody,

I have been working on the largest painting of my art career. It's on a 24" x 48" canvas, and for some artists that is tiny but for me it's huge for my little studio. This one is of a herd of Yellowstone bison. And this color scheme came from Andy Warhol's work. Well, the original colors did; however, as the painting progressed the colors evolved.

Hello Everybody,

Lately I have been showing in the Altamira Gallery in Jackson. This exhibit is turning out to be great exposure for my work. I recently dropped off more of my work to them and am starting on some new wildlife paintings for them this week. Which I will be showing as they progress.

Altamira has been doing an amazing job of promoting me with their website and in the local paper. In fact, I just found out that you mentioned me in their website news. "Altamira is excited to feature three guest artists during this Holiday Season. Bregelle Whitworth Davis, Andree Hudson, and John Greene will exhibit selected works.

Growing up near Jackson, Davis is a colorist whose style resembles the illusion of silk screening yet retains the textured surface of a painting. While her palette is limited, she has an exceptional talent to bring out the life and energy of each subject."

New Show, New Gallery

Hello Everybody,

I recently delivered 9 paintings for a winter art show in Jackson, Wyoming. The show is a the Altamira Fine Art Gallery and will run through the middle of January. The physical gallery itself is fairly new; however, the Art Director and many of the artists have been together for many years. Some of the artist featured at the Altamira Gallery are Amy Ringholz, Steve Kestrel, and John Nieto.

Over a Year in the Making

Hello Everybody,

These three paintings have been in the making for over a year. Well. . . more or less. Really, the idea for them come to me last summer and then I had to wait for the canvas'. Each one of this were inspired by an old sign in the Salt Lake City.

After I started painting on them in the fall I wasn't pleased with how they were turning out. The colors were all wrong, so I set them aside and became so busy with my Sundance Show I didn't get back to them.

About a month ago, I pick them back up and began to redo all of the colors. To most the colors will not seem that different, part of that is do to the camera; however, the smallest change in one color can change the entire piece.

Hello Everybody,

At times I wonder how many artists love Halloween as much as I do? Ever since I was little Halloween and Christmas were my favorite holidays. Well, as for Christmas, we all know that it was the presents. However, Halloween for me wasn't about the candy, it was about dressing up. My favorite part is painting my face. As an artist it's great to be able to use yourself as reference.

This is a painting I did of myself from Halloween about two years ago. It is painted in Gouache.

What I do in between work. . . there are a countless number of things that I do. As an artist, I just can't do one thing all the time and be happy. We (my husband and I) are always playing around with new ideas and activities. One such activity was painting our apartment. We are allowed to paint a single wall. So, we went from all white walls to all white walls with one awesome blue wall.

People always ask me where I get ideas for my paintings. Well....the anaswer is everywhere and everything. Anything can spark an idea that can go on forever. With this post I wanted to show off a few paintings I finished about a week and a half ago. One of the painting was inspired by a Kookaburra that we saw at the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake. How I was inspired to use the colors I picked for the kookaburra piece is kind of a funny story. One day I walked into my bedroom to grab something for one the many projects I am working on. I looked at my laundry basket and thought "Man, I need to do laundry again". There, on top of the pile was my blue p.j. shorts and my rust colored t-shirt sitting next to each other. As I looked at those two pieces of clothing laying there together, I thought to myself, "Those colors look great together, I need to do a painting."
The name for the piece comes from my childhood. My dad use to always sing the old nursury rhyme, "Kookaburra in the Old Gum Tree" to me.

The other painting I was working on was inspired by one of the many colorful things my brother and sister-in-law send me from Chicago. This is my Kid Robot Kitty, it's my favorite. So I thought that I "Why not do a painting of it?" and totally change the colors around. Because face it, it's already awesome and I need to do something to make it my own.

To see the finished paintings check back in a few days. I was going to post them, but they are still on my camera and the printer that we use as our SD card reader images is out of ink. The printer refuses to do anything until it is fed with black ink.

Moms' Retreat

Recently, I have been working on something new. I've been redesigning a blog for a neighbor. I first designed and painted the banner, then she asked me to do the whole blog for her. The blog "website" is for a non-profit organization called Moms' Retreat. It is pretty cool.

I think I am going to follow my husband and start almost every post with: "Good News Everyone". Well, at least I think most of it will be good news (or bad news) or I won't be posting it.
